Oldest woman in the United States, Alelia Murphy has died. Her death came just after she celebrated her 114th birthday this summer.
Murphy passed away Saturday, November 24, 2019 with her family at her side, according to 1199SEIU, a healthcare union where Murphy’s daughter Rose Green is a retired member.
Gerontology Research Group in Sandy Springs, Georgia verified Murphy’s age. She became the oldest living American after a 114-year-old Ohio woman, Lessie Brown, died in January.
