Blaine Kern Death / Obituary – ”Blaine Kern Artists” Founder and New Orleans modern Mardi Gras builder and creator, known as Mr Mardi Gras, Blaine Kern died on June 25, 2020, following an unidentified cause of death.
New Orleans icon and Master Float builder, Blaine Kern passed away, he was pronounced dead at age 90. He started a float-building career and created the most prolific float building company in the world building floats for the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Blaine Kern death has caused so much heartbreak to the beloved family. We are yet to observed the deceased cause of death and obituary.

My heart is heavy tonight… heaven gained a very special angel, Blaine “Mr. Mardi Gras” Kern! He was truly one of a kind! He was a pioneer in the float and sculpting business. I was so lucky enough to meet Mr. Kern in several occasions and the one thing that I loved about him, is he made you feel special and important… just like him! My kids finally got to meet him and get his book that he illustrated for his amazing wife, Holly the book is precious! The kids love it! He even drew them a special sketch in the front of the book! He sure will be missed by many but mostly his wonderful wife Holly! They had a love for the record books! I’ve never seen two people so in love with each other! Please keep Holly and the rest of the Kern family in your prayers!! Rest in Blaine! You will be forever missed.
He and Holly Holly Wood Kern were definitely one of a kind. I remember playing his Mardi Gras world events and singing w her on Bourbon street. Wonderful people. He will be missed.
A one of a kind , ( Poppa Kern) Blaine Kern was a New Orleans tradition and one of New Orleans largest promoters for the city just as much as “Gumbo and Jambalaya “ but in a more artistic way……Heaven will be Partying tonight in a special way in honor of Mr. Mardi Gras .. RIP Blaine Kern, Mr. Mardi Gras I first met him back in the 90’s while on tour with Vince Vance & the Valiants, we had 10 years of memories at Mardi Gras World, parades, and Bourbon Street. Today we lost a legendary man, Blaine Kern “ Mr Mardi Gras “ was a very special man ..I owe not only one of my first jobs but also my entire adult career start due to Blaine believing in me …. it is a long story , but in short Blaine was instrumental in helping me in more ways than I can ever explain …. Rest In Peace , Poppa Kern and I know that all the KREWE’s will be rolling in Heaven and the Beads will be a plenty ….and for all who have experienced the magic of Mardi Gras , Blaine Kern contributions were paramount beyond words …So to everyone who experienced the Magic New Orleans “ Mardi Gras “ I think you can expect “Mr Mardi Gras”to be pulling on his ear and telling God and all the angels that next year parades will be even better than ever ..Sincerely, much Love my friend !
“King of Mardi Gras” Mr. Blain Kern unfortunately passed away last night….God Bless His Soul.Gennifer and I were honored to spend an entire day back in the day with him and Holly during the Uptown Irish Day Parade, and then off to the French Quarter together for Dinner later that eveningHe was so much Fun to hang with especially on a parade route….I had no idea “How Popular” he was until, I was hanging along side him on Louisiana Ave on a parade route! Everybody came up to him while walking in that parade to show him “Love & Respect”. Throughout the day we bonded like brothers cause he liked being a social butterfly with everyone and here I was like his personal photographer capturing all these awesome images of him with Everyone, especially with his love, Holly! After Dinner and hanging out in the French Quarter for a lil while, it was time to bring them two “Love Birds” home….Across the GNO Bridge to his cute lil cottage in Algiers Point. We said our goodbye’s and as He & Holly walked away into their home/ love shack, I thought how fortunate We were to hang with Mr. Blain Kern for a Day…He was “Full of Life” all day & night long! It was weird but, I actually felt older/ tired way before him that evening next to him. He had this amazing energy & spirit of youthfulness at 89 like a Kid that was absolutely contagious. It was amazing…. “He was Amazing” GOD BLESS HIS SOUL, HEAVEN NOW HAS…..The King of MARDI GRASSo sorry to hear the news of Blaine’s passing. I met him back in 1986 and he was then and up until his passing a formidable and charismatic man. He wa so kind and generous with his time and knowledge of parades hence his deserved title King of Marci Gras’s. Rest well my dear friend in the knowledge of the joy you brought to peoples lives.
