Mary Ann Carroll

Mary Ann Carroll died earlier December, 2019 at the age of 79. She was the only woman among the iconic Florida Highwaymen artists, passed away earlier this month.

Mary Ann Carroll cause of death is not made public yet.

Carroll is best known for being part of the Highwaymen, a group of 26 African-American artists who sold paintings from their cars during the Jim Crow era, according to her obituary.

The Highwaymen painted pictures using bright colors of Florida’s untouched landscape. Those paintings were considered insignificant by buyers at the time, but was a source of income for the artists.

Now, those painting are worth thousands. Carroll’s work hangs in several museums, four continents and the Smithsonian.

Carroll was also the pastor at Foundation Revival Center Church of Redemption. Her funeral will be held at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m.
