The victim was diving off Gordons Bay near Clovelly this morning when her fellow divers noticed that her air tank was floating nearby and went to rescue her.

One of the divers identified as Rod de Groot narrated thus: “We found her in the water not breathing with the regulator out of her mouth, so we brought her in to shore and did CPR,”

The victim whose identity has not been disclosed was treated by the paramedics and then rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to Karl Cronan, NSW Ambulance Inspector “The woman was pulled unconscious from the water by members of the dive course – who were able to commence CPR prior to our arrival,”
“Our paramedics took over and did everything they could, working tirelessly to provide life-saving treatment and resuscitation before transporting her to hospital in critical condition.”
“Nobody intends for these tragedies to happen, but the thing about accidents – they happen in second – but the impact can remain for a lifetime.
“Anybody who has experienced the horror of a drowning or near-drowning knows it is extremely traumatic for everyone involved, none more so than their loved ones.”

Investigation is ongoing as to the cause of the divers death.
