Luis Loja Arrested – The police reports of the arrest of the driver of a van that was involved in a collision in Waterbury on Sunday that killed a 6-year-old girl and left two others injured.
The van driver identified as 39-year-old Luis Loja, of Waterbury, has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, says the police.

Around 9:30pm on Sunday, officers were called to Baldwin street on a report of a crash involving pedestrians.
Upon arrival, officers found a van that had rear struck another vehicle. The van was parked off to the right side of the northbound lane of Baldwin Street.
The police added by saying a 30-year-old woman who was hit by the second vehicle was lying on the sidewalk.
Investigators came in immediately and it was discovered that the 30-year-old woman and a child were hit by the vehicle and were in critical conditions.They were immediately transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
The hospital pronounced the 6-year-old child dead at 10:16pm and her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identification.
Authorities reports that the woman is in a stable condition but remains hospitalize.
Luis Loja, the driver of the van escaped from the scene on foot. According to officers, witnesses traced him down Glen Street and convinced him to return to the accident scene.
It was reported by the police that at the time of the crash, Loja was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested and is facing charges which includes: manslaughter with a motor vehicle, assault with a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, evading responsibility in accident resulting in death, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, improper use of registration plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Pending arraignment, Loja was held on a $750,000 bond .
