Swimmer Who Drowned At The Sparks Marina Identified –  The swimmer that died at the Spark Marina was identified as Eric Johnson age 56 of Reno.

Johnson was declared dead at the scene when his body was found, Sunday, July 5, 2020. The cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

Johnson was reported missing Saturday, July 4, after he was seen struggling in the water just a short distance from shore.

A park ranger told KOLO 8 News Now at the time, that a woman saw her friend go under and never surface again.

A witness also said “she saw a man start swimming into the Sparks Marina and then at one point, he started swimming with one arm. He turned around and started coming back and yelled again. Then he went under”.

Joining the Sparks Fire Department in the search are the Sparks Police Department, REMSA, Washoe County Search and Rescue, the Washoe County HASTY Team, and RAVEN.

The body of a swimmer who went missing yesterday afternoon in the Sparks Marina was recovered by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office volunteers this afternoon. The man was located in the water near the dog park shortly before 1:30 p.m. Approximately 333 man hours were put in to this search. @Washoe County Sheriff’s-HASTY Team, Washoe County Search and Rescue, Search and Rescue canines, the Specialized Vehicle Unit, and RAVEN participated in the search. . . We are saddened for this outcome, our hearts go out to his friends and family.
