The sad incident occurred near the Shovel Lake boat ramp.

According to the Coroner’s report, “he was out fishing with a friend of his on Sunday morning.”

“He fell over the side of the boat, on the port side. His friend who was later identified as 68-year-old Mike Polson initially tried to recover him with a pole, but then dove into the water.”

“When he reached (Thompson) he was not responsive. (Polson) got them to the shore and efforts to resuscitate him were not successful.”

An autopsy will be carried out on Monday to ascertain the cause of Thompson’s drowning and also determine if he suffered any medical condition that might have contributed to the ugly incident, says Hines.
