Jessica Doty Whitaker was walking with her fiancé Jose Ramirez and two friends at 3am on the 5th of July 2020 when they came across four men and a woman in hot argument about the Black Lives Matter movement.
In line with Ramirez’s testimony, the groups got into a racially charged argument, and one man pulled out a gun, and so Ramirez did too. But minutes later, shots rang out along Canal Court. Doty Whitaker, 24, a young mom and home health nurse, was taken to hospital where she died.
