Richard L. Peterson of Candler Death – Investigation is still ongoing by the Morganton Department of Public Safety on the determinant of a possible road-rage incident that resulted to death on Friday, July 10, at 2:20 p.m.

This ugly rage happened in the area of Jamestown Road and the Interstate 40 Exit 100 Westbound off ramp and claimed the life of one man, identified by the authorities as Richard L. Peterson of Candler.

The Public Safety responded to the area upon receiving a report of a person lying in the roadway.

Officers found a man upon their arrival. Peterson was suffering from traumatic injuries and was being tended by witnesses.

Peterson was quickly taken to CHS Morganton to be airlifted to a hospital. He later died of his injuries.

The other driver involved who initially fled the scene has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement.

Following investigations, witnesses and dash cam videos shows that this may be some type of a road-rage incident that resulted to an assault.
