Florida Woman Murdered Elderly Montour County Man

Florida Woman Murdered Elderly Montour County Man –  Kathleen Reed of Pembroke Pines, Florida was  arrested for allegedly murdering an 83-year-old  Walter Ditzler inside his home near Danville Tuesday night.

The 83-year-old was found dead inside his home along Bloom Road near Danville.

According to court papers, Reed left her home in Florida after getting into a fight with her mother and headed north.

Once in Pennsylvania, she stopped at the victim’s house and asked for gas money; Ditzler refused.

Reed then asked to use the bathroom.

When she was done, the victim told her to leave.

After that, she grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slashed the victim’s throat.

“He was a really nice guy. Him and his wife both. They went to dinner with my mom. It’s just a random act. It’s like, how scary is it,” neighbor Bo Pursel said.

According to court papers, after the stabbing Reed took off in the victim’s car.

State police later caught up with Reed at a gas station near State College for an erratic driver complaint.

It was discovered the car she was driving belonged to Ditzler.

That’s when troopers in Montour County did a welfare check on the 83-year-old man and found him dead.

“It’s scary, frankly. I live a couple of miles away from where this occurred and this is a very nice community,” said Angela Mattis, Montour County District Attorney. “This is not something you see in Montour County or in Danville.”

Reed was sent to Columbia County Prison without bail.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 31 in Montour County.
