Julie Berman has died on December 22, 2019. She was a popular Toronto trans right activist. According to report, Toronto police found Berman with head injuries, she was taken to a hospital where she died.
Toronto Trans Right Activist Julie died at the age of 51. Berman was found in a home in the city’s Brunswick and Harbord street with injuries on her head.
She was a popular hairdresser and had worked to bring to an end of difficulties faced by trans community including discrimination and violence by creating awareness of hostility received by trans in the community.
“It’s really heartbreaking … The same thing that she was trying to be vocal about happened to her,” said Davina Hader, a friend of the victim, to the Globe and Mail.
