Victor Lobato Death – The police have confirmed the death of a 7-year-old boy who got drowned on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2020 in the Chicago River. He was identified as Victor Lobato, of Little Village.

The boy was taken to Mercy Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, says  the police.

According to Fire officials, the boat Lobato was on capsized at 6:41 p.m. in the 1500 block of S. Lumber Street, flipping nine people, including the boy, into the river. All nine were pulled from the water and assessed by paramedics.

Everyone but the boy is accounted for and uninjured, says the police.

Officials report that three adults and two additional children were taken to the University of Illinois Medical Center in good condition, while three other people refused treatment.

Police said the incident happened when a passing cargo boat caused the passenger boat to overturn.

According to Deputy District Fire Chief Carmelita Wiley-Earls statement to ABC, Lobato was trapped underneath the capsized boat and drifted three blocks underwater before divers could reach him.

The small craft was pretty packed, and it’s not clear if the passengers were wearing life jackets says ABC.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit responded to the incident.

Although the police said the capsizing was likely the cause of Lobato’s demise investigation is still ongoing.
