Tony Merrick Death | Obituary – Tony Merrick sadly passed away, Tony Merrick was one of the five dockworkers and trade unionists were imprisoned for standing up to a government which, through the new Industrial Relations Act, was inflicting draconian restrictions on workers’ rights to strike and reducing job protections.
Tony Merrick was imprisoned in Pentonville prison in defense of their trade union principles in July 1972 by refusing to obey the court order issued by the National industrial relations to stop picketing a container depot at Chobham farm and Midland cold store in east London.
We express our sympathy and deepest condolences to Tony Merrick’s family today and in the days, weeks, months, and years that are to come as they cope with his passing. May his soul rest in peace.
