Mike Gillespie Death | Obituary – Former USC and UC Irvine head coach Mike Gillespie age 80 passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Mike Gillespie was an icon mentor to the community and team, he contributed passionately to the country.
Gillespie was just two years removed from coaching the UC Irvine Anteaters, where he guided the program to a 32-24 overall record in his final season as head coach.
uring his time at UCI, Gillespie led 11 campaigns and guided the Anteaters to the College World Series in 2014 — just the second CWS berth in school history. He also amassed a 393-249 (.612) overall record. In addition to the CWS berth, Gillespie guided the Anteaters to five postseason appearances.
We are never ready to say goodbye forever even though we know it is a part of life. This day our hearts are heavy for losing someone so special, but as we mourn your death, we also celebrate your life. Rest in peace.
It always seems like we have all the time in the world, only to realize how fleeting it really is. We wish we had more time to do and say the things we saved for later which along with you is gone forever. We promise to keep you alive in Our memories.
