Tragedy Unfolds as 2 found shot dead in Burning Akron Home – On Tuesday, 28th of July 2020, man and woman were found shot to death in a burning home in South Akron. Neighbors said the Brown Street home has been a trouble spot for years. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday afternoon identified the dead as Justin Lee Walker, 34, and Melinda Kay Pointer, 47, both of Akron. Both died of gunshot wounds to the head and torso, the office reported. The case has been ruled a double homicide, representing the 27th and 28th homicides in Akron this year.
According to reports from Akron Beacon Journal, Akron firefighters responded to a burning duplex near the intersection of Brown Street and Adkins Avenue about 6 a.m. Tuesday after witnesses called 911. One neighbor told a dispatcher she heard a loud boom and saw flames from the middle of her street. A second caller, who said he was a neighbor, said the back of the duplex was on fire along with things pushed up against the home.Firefighters found the back of the home engulfed, police said. Walker and Pointer were found dead inside the duplex after the fire was extinguished. Investigations are still being carried out.
