Hoen Chin Death –The Bristol Police Captain, Brian Burke has released the identity of the man who died while trying to help three teenagers from a current in Bristol on Wednesday afternoon, July 29, as Hoen Chin, 56, of Providence.
The incident occurred on the shoreline off Harrison Street.

According to official report, Chin was with family and friends by the water when three teens that were swimming started struggle in the riptide.
He immediately jumped into the water to save the teens, but also got caught in the tide and went underwater while the three teens made it to the shore, says Burke.
Chin was later found after 10 minutes search. He was found unresponsive and pulled to the shore by bystanders.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In Burke’s words, “The thoughts and prayers of the Bristol Police Department are extended to the Chin family.”
