Reactions, Tributes And Sharing On Social Media Concerning Nick Hoenstine Passing

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hoenstine family, Nick was a great classmate and he will be missed by many. Rest easy❤️ I’ve struggled all day to figure out what I wanted to post/share. I’ve had to “remember” too many students/former students/athletes over my 19 years; but here it goes: I’d known Nick since he was just a kid causing trouble during halftimes as basketball games when my wife was the Athleic Trainer at Central when we first moved here. Fast forward to 2014, when I started back coaching baseball and we had a hell of a run to the State Championship in baseball. During the prior couple of years in a school but especially during that incredible season, I got to know him more as a student, an athlete and a young man. Some of my favorite times coaching that year were just the talks we had about literally anything. In the middle of a close game, he’d want to start a conversation on the Illuminati or something, just to break the intensity of the moment and for a laugh.
After graduation, I still got to run into him once in awhile, in fact, just a couple of weeks ago at the Martinsburg baseball field, we got to catch up and talk for about an hour. What a blessing it was to have that last conversation, something just for him and I, and something I’ll hold dear for myself.
I’ll miss ya Nick. From the absolute intensity on the diamond, the reckless abandon on the base paths, the focus at the plate, the openness of our talks, the hilarity at your inquisitive and questioning of the world and topics, and to the man that you were becoming and never got to fulfill. Love ya buddy…

I dont have the words but on behalf of my family thank you to all of our friends, former players, teammates, and opposing coaches who reached out to me. Reading your messages was the hardest part of the day and I know Nick would have appreciated what you said about him. #psalm91
