Ruka Rangiahuta Broughton Death – The authorities have confirmed and released the identity of the victim who died in the Whanganui River on Tuesday, August 4 as 31-year-old Ruka Rangiahuta Broughton.
According to Inspector Sue O’Neil Whanganui police acting area commander, around 3.15a.m on Tuesday, officials were called on a man seen in trouble in the water near Anzac Parade.

Broughton’s body was discovered in the water before 4.30 p.m. by the police national dive squad.
As investigation continues, a rāhui was put on the river from Te Ao Hou marae on Somme Parade to the river mouth, which will last for three days from the drowning.
