John Sellhorst Death – A 75-year-old man has died after a two-vehicle fatality in Platte County Thursday evening, August 6. He has been identified as John Sellhorst, of Newman Grove.
At about 5.00 p.m on Thursday, officers were dispatched to Hwy 91 one mile west of Hwy 45 near Newman Grove.

According to reports, Sellhorst was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck, and was traveling eastbound on Hwy 91 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a 2006 Kenworth water truck driven by a man identified as 31-year-old Yasmanis Varela Marti, of Grand Island.
Shellhorst was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shellhorst was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt as the time of the accident.
The driver of the other vehicle was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, says the police.
Investigation is ongoing by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
