Calaway Homer Dodson Death | Calaway Homer Dodson Obituary – Selby Gardens’ first director, Calaway Homer Dodson has passed away on Sunday, 9th of August 2020 in Sarasota at age 91. Calaway (Cal) Dodson a botanist, orchidologist and taxonomist served for 10 years as the first executive of Selby.
He was the founding director of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Calaway helped to transform acres of tropical plants and weeds into an internationally recognized research center and cultural destination for the decades that followed. According to a post made by Nouvelles sur les orchidées, during his tenure, Calaway oversaw the transformation of the Payne Mansion into the Museum of Botany & the Arts, and construction of a greenhouse complex.
