William was Professor of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, a position he held since 1975. He contributed passionately to his community and country he was an icon and a mentor to his community and country he will be greatly missed.
Whenever I think of Ausonius and the Pervigilium Veneris, I think of him. Yet more than that, it was his infectious laughter, his smile as broad as the Texas sky, and the support of both him and wife Jane, a fellow Latin teacher, that will live forever with my wife and me.
