Manuel Marquez, a Paramount father of 3 children and a grandfather has been killed. He was shot dead in a Thursday morning shooting that broke out in North Long Beach.

According to police, Marquez, 44, was found dead inside the Bottoms Up Sports Bar. The man suspected of shooting him, identified by coroner’s officials as 48-year-old Delfon Kinney Sr. of Long Beach, also died of a gunshot wound at the scene, police said.

Marquez was an employee at the bar, and he worked as a bar back and helped clean the bar, Barbara Marquez, Manuel’s mother said Thursday, Oct. 24.

Presstelegram reported that a police officer was flagged down and alerted to a shooting at the bar in the 1700 block of East Artesia Street, on Wednesday at about 12:20 a.m.  The officer arrived and found the suspect inside holding a gun, police said, with the officer firing, though it wasn’t clear if a bullet from the officer hit the suspect.

SWAT officers arrived and found the suspect on the ground, non-responsive and still holding the firearm, police said. Police found a casing at the scene that did not match the officer’s or the suspect’s firearm, they said, showing the suspect exchanged gunfire with another, unknown patron
