There was an accident on 465 today. A tanker truck exploded after it overturned on I-70 at I-465, Thursday (February 20th). The explosion caused a huge fire on the road and both interstates were shut down for hours.
Indianapolis Fire Department PIO Rita Reith reported that the tanker was hauling 4,000 gallons of jet fuel when it overturned on I-70 for a reason not known yet.
According to witnesses, the driver of the truck was thrown off the scene following the explosion. It was reported that the driver had got out of the truck and was standing next to it when the explosion happened.
Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said the driver was pulled out of the fire by a good Samaritan. The semi driver suffered significant burns and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to Perrine. It is unclear if anyone else was injured.
