I shot my very first movie scene with Brent Carver on an Island off the coast of Nova Scotia.

RIP Brent Carver. He was flawless in Kiss of the Spider Woman (the musical) on B’way in 1992. (And btw a revival with J Lo as the Spider Woman is what I need. Thank you.)

Oh, dear Brent.
We’ll talk a lot about his ethereal, ephemeral genius–and all of that will be true. But he was also just a really fun guy to be in a play with.
I liked him a lot. May he rest in peace. #BrentCarver pic.twitter.com/bjG0jmXWro— Mark Crawford (@markjdcrawford) August 7, 2020
Oh my! I just watched Ms. B today in a concert performance of “Parade” (RIP Brent Carver). Much love and good thoughts to Mamoo and the rest of the family!!

First musical I ever saw on Broadway was KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. It was in previews; I could see Hal Prince pacing in the back. It wasn’t my fave show ever but it was Broadway, a new Kander & Ebb, and Chita was transfixing. But Brent Carver’s is the performance I remember pic.twitter.com/6OVBTZjtte

PARADE the musical has always been in my “top five” and was so transformative in my musical theatre education. In high school I met someone who had a burned PARADE CD that I uploaded to my computer and it actually changed my life. RIP Brent Carver, but mostly, THANK YOU.

Brent Carver showed up on the set of our little web series with such humility. Each take he just got better and better. I hated to move on to a new scene because I loved watching him grow. He was a beautiful and tender human. On stage you couldn’t take your eyes off him. RIP

I last saw #BrentCarver as Feste in 12th Night @stratfest, which was magical. Also had the opportunity to talk to him later – he was such brilliant, gentle, talented man and we are less for him being gone. Go the angels, Brent. #RIPBrentCarver

The toughest thing about reviewing a performance by Brent Carver was trying not to sound too gushy while describing how perfectly he inhabited his role. He was equally at home in #Shakespeare or a musical. The way he poured meaning into a song defined heart-wrenching. #RIP #Adieu pic.twitter.com/4W827AIBNz

This is a deeply moving tribute. Brent Carver was everything I want to be as a performer, and his Leo Frank was a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of a character. He’s gone far too soon, but now that he’s gone may we never forget the magnificent art he brought to the world ❤

As a rule, I don’t send celebrity condolences but I always had a keen stan for Brent Carver – ever since I used to play with two of his younger siblings while spending my youthful summers in Cranbrook. Such a rare talent. My thoughts are with Cranbrook & its great loss.

I was blessed to have seen Brent Carver in his glorious Tony Award winning role in Kiss of the Spider Woman, a show that in many ways helper shape the person I am today. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing. He is missed and he is remembered. ❤️

I’ve listened to the Parade OBC more times than I could possibly count and so much of what I hope for from musical theater was formed and inspired by Brent Carver’s immaculate performance so exquisitely captured for us to revel in. #RIP #BrentCarver

Just gutted to hear this. Every show I did with Brent, every time I saw him perform, I learned something. Laughter or sadness, he’d leave you in tears one way or the other. A breathtaking talent and a beautiful soul. #RIP #BrentCarver

So sad to hear of the death of Broadway star Brent Carver tonight. He was Molina in Kander & Ebb’s brilliant “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (and won a Tony Award for it) and, of course, the original Leo Frank in “Parade”. What a talent. RIP. pic.twitter.com/MpZau2WF3h
— Dominic Brewer (@dombrewer) August 7, 2020
Brent Carver was in John Greyson’s 1996 film of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play Lilies, which basically destroyed and rebuilt me emotionally. It was truly hypnotizing. I directed a stage production of it at Theatre UNB in 1999 trying to hold on to that magic. Oh how sad.

So heartbreaking. Brent Carver’s brilliant and varied performances were fundamental to many Canadian theatergoers’ experiences. That pilot light is wavering in these pandemic times, and now it feels like it could snuff right out …

Had the fortune to see Brent Carver in Unidentified Human Remains And The True Nature Of Love. Remembering the Toronto theatre scene tonight.

It was #BrentCarver, who, I imagine, recognised me either from the program or a brief meeting at Stratford. He was beaming, and offered a handshake & sincere congratulations. Starstruck, I stammered thank you & thanks so much for coming. I assumed he knew someone in the cast. 2/3
— Geoffrey Pounsett (@pounsey) August 6, 2020
Thanks for sharing this, @pounsey. #BrentCarver actually emailed me the following day: “I saw the performance of Cuailnge last night. Thank you for your rich and dynamic gift … your writing is head and heart provoking to say the least …” Very saddened to hear of his passing.

So sad to hear of the passing of Brent Carver. Was fortunate to see him as Jesus in #Godspell in the 80’s, and again as #Gandalf in #LOTR on first night of previews in Toronto in 2006. A huge loss to the Canadian (and global) theatre family. #RIPBrentCarver

RIP Brent Carver, one of the most inspiring actors of my college years. His capacity to transform, unpredictability and freedom on stage were mesmerizing. Stories about his discipline, solidarity backstage were a staple at the time. Thnx @MrJasonRBrown for capturing what we saw.
