Burnaby Death – Burnaby Construction Death – Tragedy has occurred leading to the death of man who was working in a trench laying pipe. The man died after a bucket of an excavator fell on him in the Edmonds neighbourhood in South Burnaby, RCMP said.

Cpl. Michael Kalanj, Burnaby RCMP Media Relations Officer, said emergency crews were called to the 7100-block of 14th Avenue at 10:20 this morning.

As per a representative for engineer Ledingham McCallister, the man was laying sewer and waste funnel in a channel when the container of an excavator fell on head of him. The representative said the discharge was brought about by a mechanical disappointment.

The site is worked by Marcon Construction, which says exhuming work was in progress to run pipes underneath a city street at the hour of the episode.

“We are saddened by the tragedy related to our construction site in Burnaby and our primary concern is for this worker’s family. We have offered our support to our trade partner for whom he worked. We will also be offering support to anyone who witnessed the accident,​​” Marcon president Marco Paolella said in a composed proclamation.

He said Marcon has closed down all work on the site. The RCMP, B.C. Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC are researching.
