Carroll Eckard Death | Carroll Eckard Obituary – 85 years old Vietnam veteran Carroll Eckard was found dead at his home on Harmony Grove Road. Carroll Eckard who received a Purple Heart for his service died of a gunshot wound. Authorities are investigating it as a homicide. Alan Mainer worked as a county veterans services officer and got to know Mr. Eckard. “That’s horrible,” Mainer reacted to the recent news. “I cannot imagine whether it is somebody that knew him or just somebody who got off the interstate who may have just stopped in the first house they saw, needed something. But it’s really horrible, especially for a disabled veteran that couldn’t defend himself.”
Fox29 reported that the Mcdowell County Sheriffs Officers is asking for the public’s help for information that might spur the investigation. Eckard mostly kept to himself, those who knew him said. He lived at the home alone and often had a mystery novel in his hands. We extend our condolences.
