Chicago Shooting – Chicago had a tragic one over 4th of July weekend, that led to the demise of at least 13 people, including a 7-year-old girl who was at a family party and also a teenage boy. At least 59 others were shot and injured.

During the 4th of July party around 7pm, in the Austin neighborhood, the 7-year-old girl was shot in the head while standing on the sidewalk at her grandmother’s house, says the police.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted on Saturday, “Tonight, a 7-year-old girl in Austin joined a list of teenagers and children whose hopes and dreams were ended by the barrel of a gun. As a city, we must wrap our arms around our youth so they understand there’s a future for them that isn’t wrapped up in gun violence.”

Police spokesman, Tom Ahern reported that in one of the shooting before Saturday midnight, four men opened fire on a large gathering in the street in the Englewood neighborhood. Two men died at the spot and two others followed including a 14-year-old teenager who died at the hospital. Four other people were injured, one in a critical condition and three others were not in a life-threatening state. The four gunmen were able to escape the crime scene. No arrest has been made to this effect.

The citing police of the Chicago Sun-Times stated that minors were among seven of those injured in the shooting.

As reported by the police, this weekend’s shooting killed mostly young people following the weekend before when the victims included a 1-year-old boy riding in a car with his mother and a 10-year-old girl who was shot inside her home by a strayed bullet that passed through a window and struck her head as she sat on the sofa.

Police says they would have 1,200 extra officers on the streets for this holiday weekend. This was in response to the July 4th weekend violence.
