Chris Girard Death | Obituary – Cause of Death

Beyond being one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever known, Chris’s enthusiasm was boundless, his chemistry with his players was unmatched, and he was a great ambassador for the game. For my money, Chris was the best coach in the state.

Campbell County and Simon Kenton had an intense rivalry for two decades, but it was always a rivalry that drove both teams to become better. We always looked forward to playing Simon Kenton, because regardless of the final result, it would be a game worth talking about for months. Dad and Chris respected each other so much that they exchanged emails almost daily during the season for twenty years.

Although we were often on opposite sidelines, one of my favorite memories of Chris came when I was lucky enough to play on his SK-CCHS team in the Governor’s Cup alumni tournament. For three consecutive years, Chris led our team to championships. I didn’t have any business playing on those teams, but it was a lot of fun to be on the same side for once!

The season just didn’t feel right this year without Chris, and I’m not sure it will ever feel right again. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, his players, and his students. We’ve lost one of the truly great ones.
