Donald Thomas ‘The Dancing Cop’ Is Dead
Provincetown police officer renowned for dancing during traffic has died. He passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the age of 92.
There is not cause of death said in Thomas’ death.
Thomas joined the department in 1947 as an auxiliary officer, eventually transitioning into the role of summer police officer. In the 1970s Thomas became a traffic cop in Lopes Square, frequently dancing while directing cars.
In a post on his Facebook page, Thomas’ granddaughter, Carmen, wrote that Thomas was dancing until the day he died.
“I believe it is important that all his fans know that my mother heard music coming from his apartment at 4:30 this morning and found him singing and dancing!” she wrote.
“His warm manner and his mission to interact with the youngsters that he met on patrol made him a joy to work with,” Provincetown police said. “Donald will be terribly missed and we thank him for his service and friendship.”
The Dancing Cop’s death is always been talked about on Twitter and tributes are currently pouring out.
