It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of a beautiful wife, mother, and powerful Catholic advocate for marriage and joy. Elise Charbonnet Angelette has gone home to the Lord, but she will be forever in the hearts of everyone who knew her and was touched by her untiring advocacy for the vocation of marriage, motherhood, and friendship in this Archdiocese. Our prayers are with her beloved husband, Jason Angelette and family.

Let Go and Let God! She alway told me those words.
I am still numb over the news of my dear friends passing. For those of you who didn’t have the honor and pleasure of knowing Elise Charbonnet Angelette these are the gifts she gave to me. I can honestly say Elise has helped me understand my Catholic Faith. She taught me how to pray, how to put God 1st and to understand I am never Alone. That Jesus will never abandon me or forsake me. I will miss Her everyday, miss Her voice, the crazy videos of Her family, Her smile, Her crazy wigs, Her hugs and Her wise advice. She is so creative and talented. If you met Elise once she was your best friend.I know Elise ran with all her strength and leaped into the arms Our Fathers and gave our Blessed Mother the biggest hug She ever. Her miracle now complete. Please pray for her husband Jason, their 5 children Bella, Sophia, Jude, Naomi and Norah also their families. Fly High my BEAUTIFUL friend, rest and watch over your family. Today our community suffered a tremendous loss. A local mom, Elise Angelette, lost her long battle with cancer. She fought so hard and even perfect strangers embraced this spirited, inspirational Mom and her darling family. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, Elise was the first person that popped into my mind. It was like a movie reel of people going through my brain of people I knew that had been diagnosed with cancer. I knew my cancer was not nearly as bad as hers but she definitely gave me inspiration and strength. I had the opportunity to meet her through YouNight and to witness her strong faith, her big smile and saw the love that she spread even when she was struggling. We got word that she had passed away while we were doing a YouNight video shoot today. We took a moment of silence and prayed for her and it was incredibly touching. I can’t even imagine what her family is going through but I know she was greeted with open arms as she walked into gates of heaven with her megawatt smile.2 Timothy 4: 7-8I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

If you are able PLEASE DONATE!“God’s Covenant” and “God is my oath” this is what Elise means. It is such a powerful name! It is not a common name, at least where I grew up. When I moved down here one of the first things I would get asked is, ”Do you know Elise Angelette?!” Honestly that never stopped. She has always been a role model to me without her knowing. We ran in different circles, but I felt the weight of my name when being around her and living in this area. Anyone who knows me, knows my passion for the joy of suffering and kicking satan’s ass…two things that Elise was truly a rockstar at! She looked satan in the face and said “You will not defeat me, I will joyfully laugh in the face of fear and dance all the way to heaven!” I can’t even imagine how Jason, kids, her family and friends are doing. Needless to say, this communities heart will be aching in unison for a long time. There will be a missing piece. Elise is truly the one of the best examples of what it means to embrace suffering! The beauty that radiated from her was breathtaking and life-changing to everyone around her! This is what embracing the cross of Christ looks like!We get lost in the midst of our pain, we lose trust in God, and forget that He loves us with His entire being. He literally is love itself! No matter what has been taken from you, no matter what your life looks like, what sufferings you have…YOU ARE LOVED and YOU ARE CHERISHED! God has not abandoned you! In fact, He is calling you to a deeper intimacy and beauty than you could EVER imagine! Look at the way Elise has affected the world around her, she was a force of joy and healing! I am so grateful for Elise’s example of selfless joyful suffering! For Elise, I pray we all hold our loved ones tight. That we cherish all the annoyances of every day life with our loved ones, that instead of complaining we praise God for the blessings and the crosses in our life, that we give up our expectations for what our life “should be” and embrace the life that we God has given us! Truly Elise lived up to her name….she has shown each one of us what living out God’s Oath and God’s Covenant truly means! May you rest in peace beautiful soul!Lord, give us the strength to live like her example, to know that you are GOOD and everything you do is for a POWERFUL purpose! Help us to remember, this is NOT our home. Give us the grace to live as loudly, boldly, lovingly, selflessly, and authentically as Elise. Thank you dear sister for your life and example! For everyone who is suffering from her passing, please know I am holding you in my prayers and lifting you up! I am sure an ocean could be filled with the tears that have been shed for her in the past day! Hold your loved ones and embrace each moment you have!

Reflection #4 – The End GameI got word yesterday that an icon in Marriage and Family Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of New Orleans passed away. I can’t stop thinking about the exquisite witness of the life of Elise Angelette. I’ve watched her fight for many years now, and have prayed, alongside hundreds of her friends and acquaintances, for her and her beautiful family. One thing that struck me from the very beginning, was how successfully integrated her life was. She was a tapestry of tightly woven body and soul, spirit and flesh. She was never so consumed with a physical healing that she neglected her spiritual life and withered away, being preoccupied by her own anxieties; nor was she so spiritualized that she neglected the demands of her body and delights of her earthly life with her family to focus on all things spiritual. As she fought valiantly and pursued every avenue of medical paths to find a cure, she danced and laughed and focused on others. She blogged and spoke about God’s love and goodness, and the gift of this life we’ve been given. Hers was a life of celebration amidst the pain.Years ago, I also watched, closely, the suffering and death of St. John Paul II. His life, too, was a tightly woven tapestry of body and soul. He knew why he was here and where he was going. As he suffered and hiked the road toward the finish line, he opened his bedroom door to let us observe the process. As the disease progressed, and a drooling stare replaced the sparkling smile and twinkling eyes we once knew, he didn’t hide from us. He kept looking into our eyes and waving – beckoning us to see something past this “valley of tears.”Today’s world is fraught with anxieties. Sometimes, we find it hard to stay afloat. But, there’s a paradise beyond this desert with beauties and riches to satisfy our deepest longings. The key in getting there is to remember why we’re here and where we’re headed…. and to dance and sing while we’re on the journey. Both Elise and JP II had a song in their hearts while they worked to shed their earthly shells. If we keep our eyes uplifted and focused on our destination, we’ll be able to dance though we’re weary and run without growing faint. It’s all about the end game.Elise, St. John Paul II, and our own beloved Courtney Guidry, pray for us.
