Iranian conservationist, Eskander Firouz has died. We recently found out about the passing through Fred Parvaneh, March 6th, 2020 Twitter post.
Friends and families are mourning the conservationist who died at the age of 93.
Eskander Firouz, the distinguished Iranian conservationist has passed away. He was a former Dir. of the Dept. of the Environment in Iran & had been VP of the Intl. Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Distinguished conservationist Eskander Firouz, founder of Iran’s Department of the Environment, dies at 93. Under his initiative, #Iran hosted the major int’l conference of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (1971) — now includes 171 countries, over 2,300 wetlands.
