Former president Richard von Weizsäcker’s son Fritz von Weizsäcker has tragically died. He passed away after being attacked and stabbed while giving a medical lecture in Berlin.
Berlin police said they were investigating “in all directions” Wednesday after a man attending a public lecture fatally stabbed Fritz von Weizsäcker, a son of the late Richard von Weizsäcker — the German president between 1984 and 1994.
The ugly incident happened on Tuesday evening while Fritz von Weizsäcker was giving at the Schlosspark hospital in the western Berlin neighorhood of Charlottenburg.
The lecture was attended by over 20 people. Police arrested the attacker with the assistance of members of the crowd.
According to report,
The 57-year-old suspect was “previously unknown” to authorities, said police, suggesting he had no prior criminal record. No motive had been identified. The suspect, who was still being questioned early Wednesday, was to appear before a magistrate later in the day.
