Ghanimat Azhdari Death - obituary

Ghanimat Azhdari death & obituary: ICCA Consortium are so sad and devastated at passing of Ghanimat Azhdari who died on January 8, 2020.

Ghanimat Azhdari was one of the passengers of the plane that crashed in Tehran, Iran. The plane was carrying 175 passengers and all onboard did not survive.

Ghanimat whose Twitter bio explained as “Participatory GIS, Natural Resources Conservation, Indigenous Peoples Rights on Territory, Indigeous Knowledge, Facilitator- PhD student, University of Guelph,” died in the plane crash.

ICCA Consortium on its official website released a statement on the passing of Azhdari. Part of the statement reads below.

“Our dear friend Ghanimat Azhdari was on the plane that crashed this morning (8 January 2020) in Tehran. There were no survivors. We are in utter disbelief and heartbroken at the sudden loss of such a beautiful young life – a true force of nature, and one of the ICCA Consortium’s most cherished flowers. No words can adequately express the pain of this loss but please allow us to share the following.

Ghanimat was a proud member of the Qashqai tribe and a powerful and passionate young leader. She was a dear friend to all of us and will be deeply missed.”
