We are saddened by the news of Henry Lent’s passing. Please keep his family in your thoughts.
Dear Parents;
I am writing with sadness to inform you that Henry Lent, 8th grade student at West Middle School, has passed away. Henry suffered a traumatic injury on Monday, August 17, 2020 while practicing in a sports clinic. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends.
For some children, the death of a student may remind them of some other loss in their lives. For other children, this may be their first encounter with death. Young people often grieve differently than adults. Feelings of anger, hurt, guilt, and sadness are natural. These emotions may be difficult for your child to understand and they may have many questions. It is important that they have the opportunity to express their feelings. Other common reactions children may have include; sleep disturbances, temporary loss of appetite, anxiety, or fears about personal health and safety. Young people may also use humor to deal with their feelings, and although this may seem odd, it is a common coping mechanism. Some suggestions for dealing with the concerns your child may have include:
Listen to your child’s thoughts and feelings – it is important that your child knows you are there for support and to answer questions
Encourage your child to express his/her feelings – don’t be afraid to cry together and share your personal experiences of loss
Support your child and be patient with his/her feelings in responding to the loss – spend extra time discussing and processing this news

Henry Lent GoFundMe

A GoFundMe account with $63,797 raised of $50,000 goal set up for Henry. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family of the deceased. Below is the statement on the GoFundMe page.

We are raising money for the family of Henry Lent, a loved member of our hockey community, gone too soon.
While at a hockey clinic, Henry collapsed on the ice and suffered a catastrophic brain injury. We don’t know why. He was administered CPR, then lifelighted to a specialty hospital. He was immediately ventilated, and after some testing it was determined that he was completely brain dead upon arrival to the ER. Charity and I were with him throughout the night and he never breathed on his own and his other organs began to fail. With no hope of recovery, we made the decision to remove his breathing tube at 11:51, and he was pronounced dead at 12:14, August 18, 2020, while in the loving arms of his mom and dad.
Let’s rally and raise money so that Henry’s family can focus on what is most important during this difficult time.
