James Burton And John Emerline Death – The Emerald Isle office has released the identity of two men who drowned in the ocean on Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2020, as 72-year-old James Burton, of Cornelius, and 73-year-old John Emerline, of Raleigh.
According to Matt Zapp, the Town manager, a 911 distress call was made shortly after 4 p.m for two swimmers in the area of 9901 Coast Guard Road in the beach strand near Shipwreck Lane.

After the report, four surfers and a town lifeguard went into the water in search of the men. They were later pulled out to the shore.
Life saving measures carried out on them by the emergency personnel all proved futile. The men died at the scene.
Report says that 72-year-old James Burton appeared to be in trouble in the ocean, when Emerlie went into the water to help him, unfortunately none of them made it out.
Zapp says: “A loss of this magnitude is simply heartbreaking.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burton and Emerline families during this tragic time.
It was also reported that there was a moderate rip current risk in Emerald Isle on Sunday.
