Lost 2 great coaching mentors and friends today. Don’t know where my football career would’ve gone without these 2! Coach Steve Grimit at St. Cloud State University and Coach John Blake at the University of Nebraska. Luv em both. Both were big personalities, loved football pic.twitter.com/dgU13TcAXw

John Blake had a big personality. Friendly and warm and genuine. If he had any animosity in his bones, no one between Sand Springs and Norman ever saw it. (via @BerryTramel)

Back when I was Sports Director at Fox25 I got a random call at the office from John Blake.
Said he just “wanted to catch up and see how I was doing.”
That’s the kind of guy he was.
We ended up talking fave Marvin Gaye and Motown tunes.

Rest In Peace to Coach John Blake. One of the most charismatic coaches that I have ever met. I always had a lot of respect for him; whether it was talking ball or speaking to my Shepard MS students, during his time here in NC. Prayers go out to his family & friends.

Supposedly, the reason John Blake had an in w/Ndamukong Suh was from Blake’s time at Mississippi State. Suh’s sister was a soccer player there, & somehow, Blake knew her when he coached the DL there the year before he came to Nebraska. #Huskers

And since I’m being honest – it’s always irked me a little to see Blake’s lingering media fans try to give him credit for Bob Stoops’s national championship run.
That said, may John Blake, who died much too young, rest in peace. He was a good Sooner.
