Kurt Luedtke Death | Kurt Luedtke Obituary – According to a tweet made on the 9th of August 2020 by Jim Schaefer (@DetroitReporter), Kurt Luedtke has died at the age of 80. Kurt Luedtke was the former Detroit Free Press executive editor who went on to win an Academy Award for his “Out of Africa” screenplay. Luedtke, following a long illness, died on Sunday, 9th of August 2020 at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, his wife confirmed.

His brilliant reporting on Florida’s organized crime figures attracted attention. A story he wrote in the Dec. 15, 1964. As a protégé of executive editor Derick Daniels, Luedtke assisted in creating Action Line, a reader interactive feature that filled one-quarter of the front page for 14 years beginning with its debut in 1966.
