Lawrence Laurent Death | Lawrence Laurent Obituary – Washington Post’s first TV critic, Lawrence Laurent has passed away on the 1st of August 2020 at a retirement facility in Alexandria Va. He had a history of cardiac ailments, said his son Arthur Halliday Laurent, but the exact cause was not immediately known. Lawrence Laurent wrote about entertainment programming, news and industry developments for more than 20 years; including an uncomprehending critique of the Beatles and he became The Washington Post’s first television critic in 1953.
He died at the age of 95. Laurent took graduate courses at Harvard before embarking on his new beat as one of the country’s first full-time TV writers. He leaves behind three children, Arthur Halliday Laurent of Leesburg, Va., Margaret Laurent Gordy of St. Augustine, Fla., and Elizabeth Laurent of Merion Station, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
