Malik Abdul Basit Death – The death of Malik Abdul Basit, a founding member of ‘The Roots’, a rapper and singer has been confirmed through a statement posted on the group’s verified Twitter account.

Malik Abdul Basit who goes with the stage name Malik B. died at the age of 47 on Wednesday, July 29,2020

According to the group’s statement, “We regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Basit. May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam and innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family in our time of mourning.”

Malik B’s cause of death was not released.

Malik B., was a Philadelphia-born MC and was part of the Philadelphia-based group from its early beginnings to about 1999, when he departed the group amid tensions detailed in the song “Water” from The Roots album “Phrenology.”

Written by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, the track speaks about struggles Basit had with addiction.

Basit later went on to produce solo material and also appeared on several tracks on Roots albums several years after his departure.
