RIP to a great MC, Malik B
On the last @blackalicious_ tour myself, Gab & Jumbo did a leg in which I was driving.
I played my Malik B playlist & everyone was like “Daaaaamn”
His solo joints & the ones he was featured on make for really good listening
Rest in POWER King

I had the pleasure of meeting Malik B when we brought @theroots over to Barcelona, way back in 94. He dropped so much talent both on Organix and Do You Want More. May he rest in peace. My deepest condolences to @questlove , @kamalgray and @blackthought for the loss.

I just heard the sad news from my man the Last Emperor that Malik B of the legendary Roots crew has passed away!! He and I had a few good adventures together and he’ll be truly missed but his legacy will live on!!

RIP Malik B, hearing early records from The Roots was a pretty big transition point for how I listened to music and he had a lot to do with that. Lots of nights in high school spent listening to Things Fall Apart and just thinking.

Rest in Peace to Malik B of The Roots. “Step into The Realm” from Things Fall Apart was always one of my favorite performances from him. pic.twitter.com/d6sOlKxapB

Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Malik B, one of the greatest MC’s to ever come from this city. He had his troubles for sure, but dude inspired a whole generation of us to touch the mic. Myself included. May he rest peacefully.

Sad to hear of the passing of @theroots Malik B. 1994’s Do You Want More was the soundtrack of my fresh & soph year at Columbia College. Both him and Thought killed that album. Rest well Malik. #thatsite

No man, not Malik B. 🙁 RIP to one of the great unsung heroes. And what a comeback. Just an insane writer, amongst all his other talents. Have listened to this man’s words for years and years — thanks for the endless classics

RIP Malik B, one of the most underrated MCs in hip hop history. Everyone will talk about his lyrics on Illadelph Halflife and Do You Want More?!!?! but his verse on Game Theory is something I quote every damn week.

This is so sad. Malik B was the MC that stood out to me on Do You Want More, and it took me an album or two to get used to only hearing @blackthought on a Roots track. For me, something was missing when he wasn’t there. A yin/yang sort of thing I suppose.
— danpoarch (@danpoarch) July 29, 2020
I’ll always vote for The Roots “Respond/React” on iladelph halflife as one of the greatest opening tracks for a rap album. Malik B destroyed this with Black Thought.

Honestly, Malik B & the Roots crew had a deep influence on my musical & philosophical growth.
Condolences and RIP to a King.— John Bailey (@JohnMetawon) July 29, 2020
It’s crazy just yesterday I saw that story about how the Holy City of Mecca was limiting the number of people that can make the pilgrimage this year. I immediately thought of Malik B saying “I didn’t make Hajj yet, but that’s my next project”. That line kept playing over and over

Hmmmm…
I’ll think about it.
I’ll just say ppl forget Malik B’s solo joints are fire. “No Great Pretender” is a great song, and is a good tune to get folks ready for what’s coming when listening to him.
I was always a fan. His personality on records always felt familiar to me

So word got to ear that we lost Malik B from the Roots today and I’m LITERALLY at a loss for words. Once I get my thoughts together I’ll expand more but we REALLY lost someone REALLY special to hip hop today smh. Nothing but prayera for his soul and his family!??????????????

TO ALL MY HIP HOP HEADS. IF YOU’RE LISTENING TO ANYTHING TODAY, MAKE SURE YOU PLAY SOME OF THE OLDER ROOTS ALBUMS AND MAKE SURE YOU PLAY THE TRACKS WITH MALIK B ON THEM. REST IN PEACE MALIK B. ONE OF THE ILLEST TO DO IT.

The one time my dude Black Thought got bested on a track (though his verse was ????). But Malik B was on his A++ game that day. #RIPMalikB

Oh no….man….smh. That bums me out. Malik B had his struggles but he got better and was hoping he and the Roots would return with another album. Terrible. RIP to a Philly legend

Rip To Malik B of The Roots Crew!
Early Roots fans can recall Malik B regularly applying pressure to Black Thought on records!
Here is one of my favorite examples from “Step Into The Realm”……

Daha iki gün önce “Bir şeyler çıkarsa da dinlesek” diye düşündüm kendi kendime. Mikrofonda Black Thought’a bile ezilmemeyi başarabilen harika bir MC’ydi Malik B. Çok üzüldüm. Huzur içinde yatsın. Yeri dolmaz.

Gonna listen to the roots all day and savor Malik B’s voice…since thats all we now have of him.

Just know there is no Roots Crew without Malik B I am completely shook to find out he passed away today. When this group first came out I always thought he was the lead MC and as the years passed it was clear that Black Thought took that role. Prayers to his family and friends… pic.twitter.com/SzE0Qakj0C
