Marine Staff Sergent Death – The Marine and local police spokesman on Monday, August 24 confirmed the death of a 31-year-old marine staff sergeant who died after a fatal car accident close to the headquarters gate of Marine Corps Installations Pacific on Sunday, August 23.
The Okinawa Police Station spokesman told Stars and Stripes by phone that the deceased sergeant whose identity is yet to be released was assigned to the 3rd Marine Logistics Group and was traveling southbound around 11.00 a.m when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road, struck a tree and a traffic-light pole in Kitanakagusuku village.

The Marine was found unconscious by the medics from Camp Foster, says the police.
He was taken to the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa where he later succumbed to his injuries, says the logistics group spokesman 1st Lt. Jonathan Coronel in an email he wrote to Stars and Stripes.
According to Coronel, “No other service members or civilians were harmed in the accident.”
As at the time of the incident, the Marine had his seat belt on.
The investigation is still ongoing.
