As bartender, manager and owner of the venerable East Village saloon, McSorley’s, Matty Maher helped it survive neighborhood blight and change its ways by admitting women and banning smoking. He has died at 80.
Matty Maher’s cause of death was lung cancer, according to his daughter Teresa de la Haba.
