Michael Rivera death & obituary: A 32-year-old has been shot dead on the morning of Thursday 23rd January, 2020 while been in a car chase with police officers, which was as a result of shoplifting reported at Riverdale Home Depot store on Route 23 north.
The Newark man was connected to a theft investigation at Riverdale, which broke into a car pursuit with police officers from Bloomingdale and Riverdale.
In a bid to escape he turned his vehicle to face a police officer, who tried swerving but was hit by Rivera and his leg pinned in the process. The officer shot at Rivera multiple times leading to his death.
Although there was administration of CPR, he was also taken to to Chilton Medical Center where he was proclaimed dead.
