Neil Lunt And Sean Fredrickson Death – The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the last two victims who were involved in a plane accident on Sunday, July 5, as Neil Lunt, 58, of Liberty Lake and Sean Fredrickson, 48, of Lake Oswego, Ore.
These release was made on Thursday, July 9, 2020 after the Sonar Team, the Dive Rescue Team and Technical Rescue Divers were able to recover their bodies.
According to official report, a Brooks Seaplane that took off from Independence Point and a Cessna that took off from Felts Field in Spokane collided in mid-air near Powderhorn Bay about 2:20 p.m. on Sunday. Five passengers and the pilot were in the Seaplane, and a pilot and passenger were in the Cessna. A total number of eight people were killed. The two aircraft collided on Sunday afternoon and sank to the bottom of the lake.
58-year-old Neil Lunt was piloting the seaplane occupied by 48-year-old Sean Fredrickson, a 16-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy all identified as passengers, along with another adult.
Their bodies, along with the main portion of the second aircraft were recovered on Wednesday and Thursday from the Lake Coeur d’Alene.
One of the victim was discovered 125 feet under water on Wednesday by the Sonar Team, the Dive Rescue Team and technical rescue divers.
The Sheriff’s office reports that on Thursday, “the second victim was found by the airplane recovery team. The rescuers were able to raise the Cessna from the lake bottom, which had the last victim in it. The victim was handed over to the Kootenai County Coroner’s Office. Again, the names of the remaining victims are not being released until approved by the coroner’s office.”
According to a press release by the Sheriff’s office on Thursday evening, the National Transportation Safety Board and contractors hired by the insurance company for the two aircrafts will continue in their work to bring up the rest of the wrecked aircrafts. It is unknown how long this might take.
Boaters are asked to stay close to shore as a portion of the lake around the crash site will be closed to boaters. This is to ensure the safety of the recovery team.
In addition to that, while the rescue team are working, the Loffs Bay Boat Launch will be closed temporarily.
