Police Identify Dartmouth Homicide Victim – The Man That was found dead on the side of a road in Dartmouth has been identified as Jose Cortez Cornejo age 27.
Police in Bristol County Tuesday said the man found dead on the side of a road in Dartmouth has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Cortez Cornejo of New Bedford.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Cornejo’s body was discovered by a motorist in the area of 180 Horseneck Road in Dartmouth around 5:15 Tuesday morning. Police are investigating his death as a homicide.
“It’s disturbing,” a nearby resident told NBC 10 News Tuesday. “It’s such a quiet neighborhood. You just don’t expect to hear this sort of thing.”
Police believe Cornejo was killed sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday but did not say exactly where the crime may have happened.
Some neighbors in the area told NBC 10 News they heard the sound of gunshots. On Tuesday, police were seen talking to nearby residents along the quiet, windy South Dartmouth Road.
“I called my neighbor and he said yes, I had two detectives and a police officer asking me if I heard anything,” a resident said.
