Man Shot to Death – On Wednesday, July 15, 2020, a man believed to be in his 30s was shot dead by police officers following an alleged “frenzied attack” in a park in Melbourne’s north.

It was reported that about 3:30 p.m, the police got a report of an assault on an older woman on John Coutts Reserve at Gladstone Park.

Upon the arrival of the Victorian police, they found a man who has repeatedly stabbed an older woman on the face and was continuously still assaulting her after police arrived. This prompted officers to fire gunshots at the attacker.

The unidentified man died at the scene.

The woman has been taken to the hospital in a critical condition and her identity is yet to be released due to the extent of her injuries.

It was clear that the man and woman knew each other, says the police.

According to Assistant Victoria Police Commissioner Luke Cornelius, he  says the officers involved were junior members and are “terribly shaken up”.

“No member goes to work expecting to have to take the life of another person, and that is a very difficult decision,” he said.

“I am confident those members made the right decision in the moment.”

Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
