Pvt. Mejhor Morta Death – According to official announcement on Tuesday, a 26-year-old soldier identified as Pvt. Mejhor Morta, stationed out of Fort Hood, was found dead near the Texas Army base.
Pvt. Mejhor Morta, who was a mechanic from Pensacola, Fla., was found unresponsive on July 17 near Stillhouse Hollow Lake, a Bell County reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Fort Worth District.

According to Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong, commander of 1st Bn. 5th Cav. Regt, “The Black Knight family is truly heartbroken by the tragic loss of Private Mejhor Morta. I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones,”
“My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. Private Morta was a great Trooper and this loss is felt by every member within our formation.”
An investigation into his death is ongoing.
Pvt. Morta is recorded as the third Fort Hood soldier to be found dead in a month, after officials ruled the June 21 death of 24-year-old Gregory Morales as suspicious and 20-year-old missing Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was found dead on July 1.
Although Guillen’s death is still under investigation, her family believes that she was being sexually harassed on base and was afraid to report it, which may have led to her murder.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas said outside the state capitol, where a group of female politicians called for change to the military’s handling of sexual harassment and assaults “She felt so unsafe going to her command to make any kind of report… she knew she may receive harassment or retaliation.”
“It’s time we put a stop to this. This can never happen again.”
