Rachel Dawn Ruit Death | Obituary – Rachel Dawn Ruit from North Carolina who went viral for her racist rants and attack on a Black teenager and woman in a hijab made international news died after being hit by an Ashvielle Fire Department pickup truck.

Rachel Dawn Ruit of Terry’s Gap Road in Henderson County suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by the Asheville Fire Department vehicle July 13 in West Asheville, according to police and a witness.

Asheville Police Department spokeswoman Christina Hallingse confirmed that Ruit died July 14. The APD is investigating the incident.

“This afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the 800 block of Patton Avenue after reports of a pedestrian being struck in the roadway,” Hallingse said July 13.

“Upon arrival officers located a female, known to officers as Rachel Dawn Ruit, suffering from life-threatening injuries.”

Jonathan Rowell said he saw the accident in the eastbound lanes of the major thoroughfare.

“I just witnessed the same lady from that video accidentally step out into traffic on Patton Avenue, going towards downtown Asheville, as she was walking with traffic coming from behind her,” Rowell posted on Facebook. “The Asheville Fire Department truck that you see in the background is the vehicle that she stepped out in front of.”

Ruit, 41, was arrested July 4 after she ripped off a woman’s hijab and grabbed a teenager in the groin after saying she needed to be “put down” and threatening to rape her.

She was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and second-degree trespass, all misdemeanors.

Prior to that, Ruit made international news when people posted June 13 and July 1 video of her ranting racial epithets and making threats.
