Robert Elwood Crotsley Death – The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed and released the identity of the man who died after a fatal crash near Hatley on Tuesday, August 11 as 67-year-old Robert Elwood Crotsley of Underwood, Iowa (near Council Bluffs).
The police reports that at 11.10 p.m on Tuesday they responded to the scene after the report of a vehicle that had driven through the ‘Road Close’ signs and hit the bridge construction a mile west of Hartley, and had gone ablaze.

Upon the arrival of the officers to the scene, they found a grey 2003 Buick Century. After their findings, they discovered that truly Crotsley had driven through the sign and fencing used to block the 6400 mile of Highway 18 due to bridge construction.
The deputies believed Crotsley continued driving eastbound where the vehicle struck a flatbed trailer registered to Christensen Brothers Inc. of Cherokee, still head on to 108 feet after impact and landed in the middle of Highway 18.
The O’Brien County Medical Examiner pronounced Crotsley dead at the scene
The Iowa State Patrol, Hartley Police Department, Hartley Fire Department, Hartley Ambulance Squad, and the Sutherland Police Department assisted with the response to the accident, says the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
