Rogelio Merlan Death: Police named a 53-year-old Rogelio Merlan of Moreno Valley as the victim of Saturday night accident. He passed away after a 27-year-old man named Lizbet Diaz struck him with his car on San Jacinto Avenue.
The sad incident happened on Saturday night at about 7 p.m. Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Orlando Castaneda said, Diaz was allegedly speeding eastbound in her sedan on San Jacinto when she veered to the right, hitting two parked vehicles before plowing into Merlan, who was walking on the shoulder of the roadway, near Dunlap Drive.
Castaneda said the victim suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
